Record label

A Record label

is the brand or trademark that is associated with distributing music recordings and music videos. A label is often needed to be able to release a record and distribute the recorded music, as well as handle any music that may be played on television.

Many artists give a majority of their rights over to a label so they do not have to worry about managing their own music. The rights that the musicians have and the labels have vary with each musician. A record will asks musicians to sign a deal in order to get the different distribution and ownership rights.

Each deal means signing a contract. Many times the label keeps a majority of the rights to music if the artists sign a contract that gives them a good amount of money for performance or royalties. This then means that the label gets a portion of these profits and royalties as well.

There are international and national labels. There are also small or indipendent record labels

. Most musicians still use labels for the purpose of distributing their music. However, some musicians have avoided using the labels now because of the Internet and have started distributing music solely by using the Internet, either by providing the music for download or the sales of CDs over the Internet that they either self recorded or paid to have a producer record.

The major record labels that are seen today are Warner Music Group, EMI, Sony BMG, and Universal Music Group. While these may not actually appear on some of the products that consumers buy, it is likely that the products are distributed by one of these labels.

There are things known as music groups. This means that certain labels are actually owned by these labels. It is often unknown that the company is owned by the label. The reasons for having these music groups is so each label will have divisions that work in the different areas of the music industry. The companies that they own can focus on the different types of music while the label can focus on the business aspect of owning and acquiring different musicians.

Independent musicians tend to have independent labels. Sometimes these are small groups of independent musicians that get together and decide to work under a single label

a single label. They give it one name and they work together to market the different recordings and keep the label alive. This is often a good idea if a certain musicians like different aspects of the music business so that the different aspects of owning a label can be taken care of by different artists.

At times, other independent musicians may have their own record label and not share it with other musicians. This is often not actually needed, but it helps to keep the recordings from being confused with other recordings that may end up being known by the same name. Often, a small logo is designed that refers to the band or to the song in order to keep the label in harmony with the band's idea or message.

Other record labels

exists as well. There is a huge history to labels. There is also a wide array of vanity labels. These labels can have many different meanings. Sometimes they mean something to the band. Other times they mean something to the company that manages the band. Sometimes it means something to both the band and the company.

can be important if the music is going to be distributed through a company. It is not as important if the music is going to be distributed independently.
